Academ's Fury: Codex Alera 02 by Jim Butcher

From The Week of September 06, 2009

Furies of Calderon introduced us to Tavi and those who would shape his life to come: his powerful but secretive aunt, his loyal and steadfast uncle, his mercurial Marat girlfriend and his troublesome king. Academ's Fury continues the adventure by introducing us to Alera's capital city as Tavi journeys there to receive an education thanks to the patronage of the First Lord. A quality sequel that will not disappoint those who enjoyed the first instalment.

Where the first novel was an adventure piece, Academ's Fury is a novel about young love and politics. We learn more about the families that run Alera, their rivalries, their hungers and their secrets. Given that second installments rarely live up to their progenitors, I was please that this volume left me wanting more. (3/5 Stars)
